Microlumbar disc surgery

Update Dr Krishna Kumar R currently practices at Medical Trust Hospital Kochi Kerala India

Microlumbar discectomy in Cochin, Kerala, India

Disc prolapse is quite common
The prolapsed disc presses against the nerve going to leg and causes leg pain (sciatica),numbness or weakness .
Rarely urinary problems and peri anal numbness could arise due to a large disc herniation which is known as cauda equina syndrome, which is a surgical emergency
Disc herniations can be managed by very small incision surgery with microscope or loupes. It can also be done using special retractors.
The patient can go home after the surgery on the same day or next day
Below is an example of large disc sequesration removed through small incision surgery
Patient had severe leg pain ,difficulty in walking due to pain, Pain on cough and straining .
He had tried traditional medicines for 3 months but his pain worsened and activities were affected.
Patient completely recovered.
