Endoscopic spine surgery is an option for  sciatica due to intervertebral Disc prolapse.

It is one of the minimally invasive spine surgery solutions for treating Disc prolapse.

Through a very small incision spine endoscope is used to visualise the the nerve root and prolapsed disc material. Then the disc portion is carefully removed to relieve pressure off the the inflamed nerve root , there by reducing the pain instantaneously.

Disc prolapse is quite common
The prolapsed disc presses against the nerve going to leg and causes leg pain (sciatica),numbness or weakness .
Rarely urinary problems and peri anal numbness could arise due to a large disc herniation which is known as cauda equina syndrome, which is a surgical emergency
Disc herniations can be managed by very small incision surgery with microscope or loupes. It can also be done using special retractors.
The patient can go home after the surgery on the same day or next day
Below is an example of large disc sequesration removed through small incision surgery
